Louden
Whew---what a weekend!

We all knew Louden would set the tone for the last 10 races, but WOW!

Kurt Busch slammed into the wall put there courtesy of Scott Riggs (#10). Kurt was upset and went to the Riggs pit box to discuss things. Nothing else came of it. Busch pretty much ran the whole race with a piece of crap car. Now he is ten in the chase. He can't afford any more races like that or he too will have to wait until next year to pursue the title (and wouldn't that just be a shame---)

Kasey Kahne vs Kyle Busch--Kasey too was introduced to the Louden wall by Mr. Kyle Busch. Upset by it all, Kasey retaliated by crashing his car into Busch's. Because of this little incident NASCAR officials pareked Kasey for the rest of the race. Like it would have mattered to Kasey at that point--his car was a total wreck, in fact only three wheels were touching the ground.

Finally--the best "conference call" of the day was Michal Waltrip vs Robby Gordon. Apparently Robby too met the walls of Louden courtesy of Mr. Gordon. There was some other "conferencing" between the two previously in the race. Robby was a wee bit upset with Waltrip. Robby tried to pull a Kasey by running into Waltrip on the caution lap, but Michael was able to avoid him. Robby being the fierce competitor that he is was not satisfied. He proceed to climb out of his car with helmet in tow and waiting for Waltrip to come back around. The wind up and pitch, WHAM, just a bit outside. I have to agree with other observers..how do miss Waltrips window at POINT BLANK RANGE??? Hey Robby---maybe if that NASCAR thing doesn't work out you could go pitch for the KC Royals--it wouldn't hurt their season any this year...might be an improvement. Then Robby says the "s"-word on national TV.

Oh by the way...Ryan Newman won the race after passing Tony with two laps to go. They raced hard and clean. That's the way it is done boys. Tony is still leading the points with 9 races to go. Watch out Tony--you missed the bullets a few times last week--you had a bird's eye view of the Waltrip/Gordon conference and the clipping of #8 right rear. You did have an awesome qualifying lap.....Good Luck at Dover--watch out for that #24 car...remember last time at dover?????

Weekend
This weekend pretty much sucked! For of all I was sick most of the weekend. It's one of those things where you aren't sick enough to get real meds from the doc, but sick enough where it pretty much ruins your weekend. It wasn't the only thing that ruined my weekend.

GOOD

  • Michigan lost to Notre Dame
  • Texas beat Florida International
  • Dallas beat San Diego
  • Tony Stewart makes the Chase for the Nextel Cup and is leading the points by 5 points--not much at this point, but I would rather be up by 5 then down by 40.
BAD
Ohio State lost to Texas (You have to know that I would rather root from anyone other than Texas except when they played Michigan in the Rose Bowl last year.)

UGLY
Jeff Gordon DID NOT--I REPEAT--DID NOT MAKE THE CHASE. This will the first time he will not be in the top ten since his rookie year. I am really disgusted with his crew right now. In the last two races Jeff has qualified good, but when his car goes south during the race his crew can't get it dialed in. Gordon and his crew needed their "A-game" on Saturday, but I don't even think they brought their "B-game" either. It was heartbreaking to watch Jeff hit the wall. I know there are those who are glad he is not in the chase (and you know who you are), but he will be back next year. He will be on that stage in December--as the 11th place winner. There are 10 races and he will be there. Good Luck Jeff!!!!

Here are the 10 drivers who will make a run at the Nextel Cup this year.
1. Tony Stewart
2. Greg Biffle
3. Jimmie Johnson
4. Rusty Wallace
5. Mark Martin
6. Kurt Busch
7. Jeremy Mayfield
8. Carl Edwards
9. Matt Kenseth
10. Ryan Newman

MY PICK--A NO BRAINER--TONY STEWART

the final race
For weeks those who follow NASCAR religiously have wondered whether Jeff Gordon will make the chase or not. After last week's race I'm not so sure. His crew cannot for some reason dial in his car to be competitive. I don't know if it is because of the impound rule or what. Jeff has struggled for the past several months. He was in the top ten last week, but fell out when he could make a decent run of things in California. If his crew doesn't step up this week and give Jeff the kind of car he needs to contend, Mr. Hendrick may want to assess the usefulness of the crew chief and its crew. I would like Matt Kensent to make the chase even if it means Jeff won't.

Kenseth was pretty much written off for making the chase, but he has come on strong of late and has poisition himself in for contention. All the Roushketeers are in the top ten so if I was a bettin' woman, I would think Roush will have the best shot at a third championship. I am beginning to like Carl Edwars. He is always positive about everything. I know he is still learning, but he is doing that very quickly. He will be a force in the cup series.

Richmond will be a shoot out for the last spot in the Chase--I believe it will come down to three drivers--Newman, McMurray, and Gordon. Everyone who reads this blog knows who I am rooting for. You can bet I will be watching Saturday night's race.

Good Luck boys!!!!
